November in London may mean evenings are longer and the days chillier, but that’s no reason to hole up at home. London is packed with a whole host of ace events and things to do. The biggie event is Bonfire Night and the many glorious firework displays taking place across the city. We’ve got Christmas lights starting to illuminate the capital, ice rinks appearing and winter pop-ups popping-up everywhere, serving mercifully warming booze and mulled wine.
The Lord Mayor’s Show in the City of London – 9th November 2019 from 11am to 2:30pm: Celebrate the new Lord Mayor as the spectacular procession winds its way between Bank and Aldwych for The Lord Mayor’s Show. The Lord Mayor’s Show dates back to 1215, when King John granted a charter allowing the citizens of London to elect their own mayor. Every year since, the newly elected Lord Mayor has travelled from the City of London to Westminster to pledge allegiance to the Crown. Join in the free celebrations which mix modern festivities with traditional pageantry.
Southbank Centre Winter Festival – From 8th November 2019 to 5th January 2019 at Southbank Centre: Fun-filled family shows, festive goodies at Southbank’s markets and pop-ups, twinkling lights, dazzling comedy and cabaret – with more seasonal delights than you can shake a stocking at, Southbank Centre in winter is truly magical.
Skate at Somerset House – From 13th November 2019 to 12th January 2020 at South Building, Strand, London: London’s most beautiful ice rink returns, transforming the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court into a winter oasis, and ushering in the festive season with a 40ft Christmas tree. One of London’s favourite winter traditions, it has something for everybody, with skating lessons, late-night DJs series, and the first-ever Skate all-nighter on Saturday 07th December.
Winter Wonderland – From 21st November 2019 to 5th January 2020 at Hyde Park: Embrace the Christmas spirit as Winter Wonderland returns to London’s Hyde Park. This free-to-enter family event is one of the best things to do in London at Christmas. Featuring a huge selection of festive entertainment and activities, from ice skating and circus shows to a Christmas market and live music, there’s enough fun things to do to fill a whole day and evening.
