October Highlights

The return of crisp days and cold evenings mean that autumn is well and truly here, but that’s no excuse to hibernate. Take a long, or short, walk and see the capital’s trees change colour on a city walk that ends with Sunday lunch at one of London’s best pubs with a fire, or for something altogether spookier, there’s Halloween to look forward to, which means parties and fancy dress galore. Summer might be over, but October is packed with new openings, so get stuck in to our list of the best events and happenings.

London Film Festival – This October sees the 61st BFI London Film Festival, undoubtedly the capital’s – the UK’s – biggest celebration of international cinema from the past year. On the programme is an astute mix of the best movies from Cannes and the other major festivals, and prestige awards contenders from the major US studios. Wednesday 10th October – Sunday 21st October 2018.

London Restaurant Festival – October brings even more excuses to eat out with the return of London Restaurant Festival, a line-up of mini menus, food events, tasting evenings and more involving hundreds of the capital’s best venues. Monday 1st October – Wednesday 31st October 2018.

Museums At Night – Yep, it’s an unlikely proposal, and no, it’s not a bunch of people sitting around with earbuds in – It’s a chance to go behind the scenes and see London’s best museums in a very different way with specialist talks, unusual events and one-off exhibitions thrown into the mix. Thursday 25th October –Saturday 27th October 2018.

Diwali on the Square – This annual celebration in Trafalgar Square marks the Festival of Lights with heaps of food, music, activities and fun. The live line-up will include both traditional religious performances and contemporary Asian music and dance. Sunday 28th October 2018.
